Chick Double

Chick Double
can a double yolk egg produce twin chicks?

A few years ago one of my hens hatched out twin chicks. We knew this because she had eight eggs and there were eight chicks with one egg left in the nest. When we looked at the chicks we saw two paternal (they looked the same though) chicks that were smaller then all the others. The only difference between them and the other chicks was their size. They were not mutant or anything strange. About three weeks later the smaller of the twins died. The other twin grew into a beautiful hen with the Columbian appearance. When she was three I gave her away to one of my fathers friends.

Most double yoked eggs will not hatch because there will not be enough space in the egg for the chicks to grow. When this does happen the chicks commonly die because they haven’t developed enough to live outside of the egg. Siamese chicks could happen but that would be rarer then regular twin chicks. Plus I highly doubt that siamese chicks would even be able to peck out of their shell and survive for any extended period of time.

Hope this helps
