Size Deep
What size boat would be good for deep sea fishing. I would like a 20ft boat w/ an 8ft beam.?
Is this boat big enough to handel moderate size waves in the ocean. and what matters most when it comes to handeling waves length or beam
A good answer would be that if you don’t know, you haven’t been out deep sea fishing enough to own one.
The oceans are all different and so are the great lakes. The west coast is different from the east coast and it makes a big difference if you are running in and out of tidal flats or rivers. It also depends on how far it is to get to the deep sea. In Texas near Freeport I have to go 70 miles to get to the deep sea fishing and you need a boat of 30 feet or more. To be safe at any distance you have to be very knowlegable about the sea (and your boat.) I used to routinely take my Explorer, a 19 ft flats boat, out 8 or 10 miles but many of my friends thought I was crazy. I probably was but I also spent 50 years on the water. I have had 2 boats sink out from under me and have rescued many other boaters in distress.
You should also know that going out with professionals once a month is cheaper than owning and operating your own boat.
